Have you ever wondered how your Kevlar canoe was manufactured? Or have you been curious about what it would take to build a Kevlar canoe? The Discovery Channel show How It’s Made dedicated an episode to this pursuit, showing you the step-by-step process of how to make a Kevlar canoe.
Kevlar canoes are popular because they are lightweight, low-maintenance, quick and cost-effective.
The episode was filmed at Wenonah Canoe’s factory in Minnesota. The mechanics seem simple enough. The canoes are made by gluing several layers of Kevlar fabric together to create a solid laminate material. But of course there are many more steps to the process than that, and much more skilled workmanship involved.
Watch the fascinating process for yourself in this five-minute video.
