In Fall 2014, Adventure Kayak magazine and Pygmy Boats partnered to give away a bundle of prizes, including a kayak kit and a 2-year subscription to Adventure Kayak. Pygmy announced the winners to the Build Your Own Adventure video contest in November.
Impressed with their customers’ stories, Pygmy created the “build your own adventure” contest—competitors submitted a 2 minute or less video pitching their dream adventure idea.
“We had some great submissions, which made it difficult to determine the winner,” said Pygmy’s marketing director, Laura Prendergast. “In the end we chose a family in Michigan with three little boys who love to kayak but don’t currently have a boat. This is their entry into paddling and we are happy to make their dream a reality—we’re giving them an Osprey triple kayak kit so they can all fit.”
When asked why paddling is an important focus for his family, Seth Koerner explained that it’s important to get kids outside when they are young so they stay healthy and develop a life-long love and appreciation for the outdoors. His dream adventure is to explore the many waterways of Michigan with his kids in a boat they have built together. “I think that the process of building the boat will really make each time on the water more meaningful and special,” says Koerner. “My kids are really excited to see what it’s going to be like to build a kayak.”
