2020 Paddling Event Calendar – Kayaking, Canoeing, SUP and Whitewater
Since 2006, the Paddling Film Festival World Tour has been showcasing the very best paddling films. The World Tour screens in more than 120 cities around the world. Join us for this year’s best paddling films. You’ll be inspired to explore rivers, lakes and oceans, push extremes, embrace the paddling lifestyle and appreciate the wild places. Since Rapid Media launched the festival back in 2006, the World Tour has screened 959 times to more than 282,864 audience members. Rapid Media has awarded $71,000 to paddling filmmakers and helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for charitable causes. The Paddling Film Festival World Tour has grown to become one of the largest paddling events in the world. This year’s premier is hosted by The Complete Paddler at Royal Cinema, 608 College St. Proceeds go to the Duke of Edinburgh Award for youth development. Tickets are $14 in advance or $17 at the door. The 62nd annual Credit River Downriver Race will see paddlers take 20-30 minutes to paddle 10 km of class I and class II rapids between Streetsville (1814 Barbertown Road) and Erindale Park in Mississauga. $20 to enter one of the many different classes of kayak or canoe races.

Kawartha Whitewater Paddlers club hosts and organizes the Marmora Area Canoe and Kayak Festival (MACKfest), an annual event to celebrate the beginning of the whitewater paddling season. As spring arrives the snows of winter melt to swell the rivers in the basin known as the Lake Ontario Watershed. Many of the rivers and creeks are found in south central Ontario between Peterborough and Sharbot Lake along the Hwy. 7 corridor.

Palmer River Fest is the ideal whitewater event for families and friends who enjoy paddling together. Located along the banks of the beautiful Madawaska River, the Paddler Co-op is situated just downstream of Palmer Rapids’ novice- and family-friendly Lower Set rapids. During this fun festival weekend, the Co-op’s pine-shaded campground fills with tents as canoeists and kayakers desend on one of Ontario’s most celebrated whitewater playgrounds. The class II rapids here are perfect for beginners and great for more advanced folks looking to improve specific skills. Even better, a well-worn portage trail alongside this 400-metre section offers easy scouting and re-runs. Targeted clinics during the day are followed by live music and dancing in the evening.

National Paddling Week is Canada’s celebration of recreational paddlesports, craft heritage, and water safety from sea to sea to sea! During National Paddle Week clubs, groups, organizations and/or individuals community members are welcome to host events of all shapes and sizes – or simply register a private/family paddle on the free shared calendar. No fees, specific affiliation or membership to any group is required to participate from Paddle Canada or its website. Join in an event near you. The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough often holds National Paddling Week events as well as other paddling-related events throughout year.

KAWARTHA PADDLE QUEST is a paddle, canoe and SUP race on June 23rd at Peterborough Ontario. This 50-km quest starts on Stoney Lake. Transportation for you and your watercraft will be provide from Peterborough to Stoney Lake where you will start your quest. After Stoney Lake and Clear Lake, you will navigate 8 portages (longest being 100 yards) down the Trent-Severn Waterways, past the Lift Locks and finish on Little Lake in Peterborough.

Race with the pros or join the recreational paddlers as they paddle and portage their canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards 64 km from Trout Lake, North Bay to the Mattawa Island Conservation Area. The scenery is spectacular, the portages are challenging, the pride of accomplishment earns you bragging rights for following in the historic wake of Voyageurs who followed the path of the Huron and Ojibway as they travelled this Heritage River enroute between the Great Lakes to the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The Upper Ottawa River Race and Paddle Festival is a three day event celebrating active outdoor lifestyles and the Ottawa River. The festival kicks off on Friday August 9th with kayak and SUP clinics, race registration and live entertainment on the beach by the bonfire. The events continue on Saturday August 10th with the Kayak Fishing Derby and a day of races on the river at Deep River Yacht Club (44km), Petawawa Point Beach (13km) in Petawawa and Riverside Park (4km & kids) in Pembroke. The festival wraps up on Sunday August 11th with Raise Your Paddle as well as the third annual Heritage Paddle.
