Ron Drummond from ENCYCLOPEDIA of SURFING videos on Vimeo.

“Durable bodysurfer and canoe surfer from Capistrano Beach, California. Drummond was born (1907) in Los Angeles, raised in Hollywood, and traveled with his family each summer to Hermosa Beach, where he learned to bodysurf and surf. He bought his first canoe at age 14, which he dragged into the Hermosa surf on a dare from his brother, and watched helplessly as a wave broke it in two. Drummond persevered, and eventually rode a canoe in waves as big as 15 feet. The tall (6′ 6”), lean, bearded Drummond was featured in a 1967 issue of Surfer magazine using his open-shelled “Canadian canoe” (as compared to the enclosed kayak); he also appeared in two surf movies, Big Wednesday (1961) and Search for Surf (1962).”
