You have been canoe tripping for years and have all the necessary gear to head out into the backcountry for days on end. Perhaps you think you don’t need any additions to your camping kit. We handpicked these items not because you can’t live without them on your canoe trips, but because we think they will seriously elevate your quality of campsite life.
Agawa Canyon’s Boreal21 Saw
The Boreal21 is a 21-inch folding bow saw that will make your life way easier when you want to cut firewood at your campsite. It unfolds in seconds and is designed to be light but give you the ability make powerful cuts. When you aren’t using the saw, it folds into itself. Agawa Canyon’s Hank Samulski says the Boreal21 was born out of “years of frustration” at site cutting wood, particularly when the task was in the dark after arriving late in the evening. It requires no assembly and you don’t need to touch the blade when opening. The Boreal21 was fully funded on Kickstarter and is available online now. The standard size is $64.95 and there are different blade and sheath options available.
Yeti’s Hopper Flip Cooler
Going on a short canoe trip and want to keep your food and drinks cold? The Yeti Hopper Flip is an extremely durable soft-sided cooler constructed with the same material used to make whitewater rafts, making it puncture resistant. The zipper is the same used on hazardous materials suits which ensures no leakage. Food and drinks stay cold, and temperature retaining technology means it can also be used to keep items hot. The Hopper Flip can float, has a shoulder strap and you can attach accessories to it. Imagine arriving at your campsite and unzipping the Yeti Hopper Flip and finding cold beer, crisp vegetables and smoked salmon. Yes please! The Yeti Hopper Flip is available in late August, comes in three sizes and retails for $279.99.
BioLite’s BaseLantern
BioLite’s BaseLantern packs a ton of light into a small space and will amp up the ambiance of your campsite in no time. The 500-lumen lantern launched in May on Kickstarter and became the third most successful lighting campaign on the crowdfunding site. We think it is a great choice for the campsite to provide a cozy space for you and your paddling partners to gather around in the absence of the fire, or to illuminate your tent for evening card games, map studying or reading. The BaseLantern launches in October and retails for $99.
