Freshwater surf on Lake Superior’s north shore peaks in late summer and autumn when the warming waters release their ferocious energy. “The onshore wind was so strong,” remembers Adventure Kayak editor Virginia Marshall of this October surf day, “that I couldn’t even punch out past the final break.
