First Look: New Survival Tools and Bug Protection

Survive Outdoors Longer debuted two new survival tools at Outdoor Retailer 2015.

The Pheonix is a multi-tool with eight lifesaving features, including a multi-purpose knife, bright LED light, loud pealess whistle, tinder quick compartment, and retractable flint rod. The knife blade also integrates a wrench, screwdriver head and a bottle opener for those not so urgent emergencies. It’s combined in a light package, no larger than a pocket knife.

SOL also debuted the Traverse, a tin kit filled with 30+ tools for keeping you safe when things go south in a remote environment, while maintaining a slim profile. The Traverse incorporates water treatment mehtods, shelter, signaling devices, fire starting methods, whistle and an emergency blanket. The Traverse retails for $25.

From SOL’s sister company and world-renowned company, Ben’s, comes the newest in insect protection technology.

Ben’s Ultranet ($10) and Invisinet ($12) offer superior protection from flying fiends. According to Ben’s, the Invisinet is more see-through by 20-percent than any other head net on the market—it’s the lightest too! Its drop neck protection and elastic crown ensures comfort.

The Ultranet is a more heavy-duty version and also offers no-see-um protection.
