How to Gain Control By Running Rapids With Cross Current Speed

In this video the Aquabatics Calgary team explain and demonstrate how to ‘get off the freight train’ of running rapids. This tutorial highlights how to use cross current speed in rapids to start catching and tagging eddies to slow downstream momentum and to give more control, create time and to help paddlers be more proactive in their descent of rapids.

It requires paddlers to have a good understanding and comfort of how to do carving eddy turns, s-turns and some comfort in Class II moving water. By applying this concept, beginner and intermediate whitewater paddlers will essentially create more time to make moves and enjoy the flow of whitewater paddling.
