OR Day 1: Starboard SUP Introduces New Technology

“When we have an idea we go full-on,” says Starboard SUP sales manager Clément Morandière about the new technology they have introduced in their boards.

Pine Tek is their 100% PEFC certified and sustainably sourced Australian Pine. A key feature of boards with Pine Tek is their strength. High grade woven Carbon Innegra has impregnated paint pigment that wraps the entire rails for maxiumum impact resistance and hull strength. A uni-directional glass band limits breakage in shorebreak (for boards under 10 feet). Boards with Pine Tek technology range from $1,299.

“We’re really working on light products with durability,” says Morandière.

Starlite technology has a combination of different fiberglass densities that wrap the entire hull of the board for strength and durability. A standing area of Australian Pine is added for extra deck impact resistance and rigidity. A high grade woven Carbon Innegra with impregnated paint pigment wraps the rails for good impact resistance and extra strength.

Zane Schweitzer, SUP athlete and three-time Master of the Ocean, raved about the Go Foil, Starboard’s system that uses hydro-foil technology that creates lift at lower speed to help power the board up and above the surface of the water. The technology gives the user smooth control on the water, and Schweitzer notes that it allows paddlers to catch smaller waves they may not normally be as successful at getting on. “Hydro-foiling is the most connection to the ocean,” Schweitzer says.
