Circling the Midnight Sun

On March 21, Solo Classic Canoeing and Becky Mason are hosting a night in honor of longtime Canoeroots columnist, James Raffan, and his new book, Circling the Midnight Sun

In Circling the Midnight Sun, James Raffan presents a warm-hearted, engaging portrait of the circumpolar world, but also a deeply affecting story of societies and landscapes in the throes of enormous change. Compelling and utterly original, this is both an adventure story and a book that will transform the way we think about northerners and the north.
Chosen by the Globe and Mail as one of the best books of 2014, Circling the Midnight Sun has received much acclaim.

An except from a book review in the Globe and Mail reads: “Circling the Midnight Sun gives us a valuable opportunity to hear from the most vulnerable, but also the most resilient, residents of our planet. Far from being a cry of anger from a remote land, their message speaks to all of us who live with a changing climate that could soon mean big changes in our culture, too. We the North, indeed.” (Read the rest here.)

Doors open at 6:3o p.m. Ian Tamblyn will perform music and James Raffan will present a multi-media slideshow. There will also be a Q&A and great door prizes.
